Table Mountain Casino Resort is the second-largest 18+ casino in California. And it may soon start selling alcohol.

The casino north of Fresno started the process of transferring a liquor license from the now-closed Yoshino Japanese Restaurant on July 22, one day after the 600,000 square-foot gaming facility opened its doors.

If the liquor license process goes through smoothly, it will only attract more customers. But if it changes Table Mountain’s age limit to 21, it will lose its 18-20-year-old customers.

Will Table Mountain Still Be an 18+ Casino?

A spokesperson for the Table Mountain Rancheria, the tribe that owns the casino, told California Casinos they are not commenting on anything related to the possibility of the casino obtaining a liquor license at this time.

However, a source who spoke on the condition of anonymity because no official decision has been made told California Casinos that there are no indications Table Mountain will stop being an 18+ casino if and when it serves alcohol.

In what capacity the casino plans to remain 18+ is yet to be determined.

Some of the 15 current 18-and-over Indian casinos in California have restrictions on their 18+ gambling.

For example, at Viejas Casino & Resort, near San Diego, the only 18+ sections are the slot machines and bingo hall. At Barona Resort & Casino, 18-year-olds can gamble because alcohol is not served on the casino floor. Alcohol is served, however, in the resort’s restaurants and the hotel, so you must be 21 to book a room.

The legal drinking age in California is 21. Because of this, most of the casinos in California that serve alcohol don’t allow anyone under 21 into their facilities.

When Will Table Mountain Casino Resort Serve Alcohol?

The liquor license transfer has not yet been finalized, according to the California Department of Alcohol Beverage Control website. The site says license applications require a 30-day posting period, followed by about 45-50 days before approval. Transfers, the site says, take an average of 75 days.

Seventy-five days after July 22 would be Oct. 5.

According to the Fresno Business Journal, records with the Fresno County Recorder’s Office show the license was sold from the restaurant to the casino for $30,000.

If the license transfer is approved, the casino would need to post signs notifying patrons of the change. Residents within 500 feet of the facility must also be informed of the license, and residents within 100 feet must be consulted and ensured they will not be disturbed.

Local law enforcement is also involved in the process to see if there is any opposition to the license.
