Fliff Week 4 NFL, Week 5 College Football Picks: Dolphins at Bengals Is Free Money

Published: Sep 28, 2022
Updated: Jan 6, 2024

For now, and probably until at least 2024, Fliff is the only legal way to make sports picks for a chance to win money in California.

So we want to treat it as seriously as we’d treat any real-money sportsbook operating in the country’s biggest state. You’d better believe Californians eager to bet on sports but discouraged by the prospects of Prop 26 and Prop 27 this November are flocking to the App Store on Google Play Store to download the Fliff app.

Starting this week, we’ll post our six recommendations for the top Fliff football picks — three NFL, three college football.

Fliff doesn’t have season-long futures odds, so these weekly pieces will mostly focus on moneyline, spread, and Over/Under picks. Although we’ll throw in a few single-game props here and there, too.

Fliff Week 4 NFL Picks

Miami Dolphins (+175) at Cincinnati Bengals

Miami boasts two of the most impressive wins in the NFL this year — 42-38 over the Ravens in Baltimore in Week 2, and 21-19 over Super Bowl favorite Buffalo last week.

Meanwhile, the Bengals are struggling hard with the Super Bowl hangover. They’ve got gross losses to the Steelers and Dak Prescott-less Cowboys, and a “meh” win over the Jets.

Yes, we know this game is being played in Cincinnati.

But … the Dolphins at +175 feels like free money. Pick Miami straight-up. A winning pick of 1,000 Fliff Coins gets you 1,750 in profit, and a winning pick of 1 Fliff Cash gets you 1.75 in profit.

Philadelphia Eagles (-6.5) vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

More free money, please.

Jalen Hurts is looking like a legit MVP candidate, and this Eagles defense is mean.

Don’t get us wrong: Jacksonville is not the Jacksonville of 2021. Those 24-0 and 38-10 wins against the Colts and Chargers, respectively, are pretty dang eye-opening. Travor Lawrence has six TDs to just one interception, and James Robinson is a breakout fantasy superstar at RB1.

Still, Philadelphia has a Super Bowl in its sights, while Jacksonville’s ceiling feels like the Wild Card round.

We think the Eagles, who have outscored Minnesota and Washington 48-15 the past two weeks, will cover at -110 odds. So a pick of 1,000 Fliff Coins will get you 909 in profit, and a 1 Fliff Cash pick would get you 0.90 in profit.

Buffalo Bills at Baltimore Ravens (Over 51.5)

This will be the game of the week, in our eyes. Josh Allen vs. Lamar Jackson? Gimme.

And gimme lots of points, too.

We feel pretty confident Buffalo and Baltimore will hit the over. The Bills are averaging 30.3 points and the Ravens are averaging 33 points through three weeks. Yes, they both have good defenses, but this just feels like a game where superstar QBs will trade scoring drives, blow for blow, and offense will take over.

The Over has -110 odds, so a pick of 1,000 Fliff Coins profits 909. And 1 Fliff Cash will profit 0.90.

Fliff Week 5 College Football Picks

North Carolina State (+6) at Clemson

A top-10 battle featuring the old guard and the new guard of the ACC? Yes please.

Let’s face it: This Clemson team is awesome, but it’s not the world-beater of a few years ago. The No. 5 Tigers barely scraped by Wake Forest in double overtime last week. Wake Forest is a high-quality opponent, but No. 10 North Carolina State is, at least on paper, better. So we like the Wolfpack’s chances to cover, even on the road.

Beyond a near-scare in Week 1 against East Carolina, North Carolina State has looked impressive — especially in a 27-14 Week 3 win over Texas Tech, which just knocked off Texas last week.

North Carolina State is getting +100 odds to cover right now, so a pick of 1,000 Fliff Coins will get you 1,000 in profit, and 1 Fliff Cash would get you 1 Fliff Cash in profit.

Iowa State (-3.5) at Kansas

Kansas is 4-0 and likely one win away from cracking its first Associated Press top 25 since it was No. 24 in Week 8 of the 2009 season. Will it get the job done this Saturday at home against Matt Campbell and Iowa State?

We don’t think so. In fact, we don’t think the Jayhawks will even cover the 3.5-point spread.

Does that mean this will be a blowout? Heck no. Kansas didn’t beat Houston, West Virginia, and Duke by accident. Lance Leipold has the Jayhawks playing great football.

But the Cyclones’ defense is the best Kansas has faced so far. Xavier Hutchinson is the best receiver in the Big 12. And quarterback Hunter Dekkers has been a delightful surprise in his first year replacing Brock Purdy.

Give us Iowa State by 10 points — say, 27-17.

The Cyclones have -110 odds to cover, so a pick of 1,000 Fliff Coins will get you 1,909 in profit and 1 Fliff Cash would get you 0.90 in profit.

Oklahoma (-6.5) at TCU

Yes, TCU is 4-0. But we’re not ready to board the Horned Frogs hype train just yet.

Especially when they’re facing Oklahoma one week after a painful home loss to Kansas State. You’d better believe the No. 18 Sooners have been chomping at the bit to get back out this Saturday and take out their frustrations on a TCU team feeling great after its 42-34 win over fellow Texas acronym school SMU.

Give us Oklahoma by at least two scores. It has -110 odds to cover, so a 1,000 Fliff Coin pick will profit you 909. And 1 Fliff Cash will profit you 0.90.
