10. Chase Bryant, Sycuan Casino Resort (Aug. 11)

Up-and-coming country singer Chase Bryant will appear at the Sycuan Casino Resort in El Cajon, California. Bryant came on the national scene in 2015 with his popular single, “Take It On Back.”

He fuses contemporary country melodies and production with a beat and a swagger that hark back to classic rock. Fans can see him on Aug. 11 at the Retreat Pool & Cabanas inside the casino.

9. Melissa Etheridge, Pala Casino Spa Resort (Aug. 21)

A true rock legend will bring her classic hits to Pala Casino Spa Resort later this month. Melissa Etheridge made a name for herself in the late 1980s and early 1990s. In 1993, she won her first Grammy award for her single, “Ain’t It Heavy.”

Etheridge is known for her pop-based, folk-rock style of music. She has received 15 Grammy Award nominations throughout her career and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She will hit the stage at the Starlight Theater inside Pala Casino on Aug. 21.

This well-known rock band has been entertaining fans since 1967. This month, Blue Öyster Cult is bringing its East Coast flair to the Viejas Casino & Resort in Alpine on Aug. 5. It’s probably best known for its top-10 hit “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper.”

The band has sold 25 million records worldwide, including 7 million in the US. It holds a unique place in rock history because it’s one of very few hard rock/heavy metal bands to earn genuine mainstream critical acclaim and commercial success.

7. Billy Idol, Agua Caliente Resort Casino Spa (Aug. 13)

Punk rock frontman Billy Idol was one of the most influential figures in music in the early 1980s. Now the man behind hits like “Rebel Yell” and “Dancing With Myself” is coming to the Agua Caliente Resort Casino Spa in Rancho Mirage.

Idol is known for his memorable music videos and groundbreaking stage performances. He’ll be live at the Agua Caliente: Rancho Mirage on Aug. 13.

6. George Clinton & Parliament-Funkadelic, Pala Casino Spa Resort (Aug. 12)

This one is near and dear to my heart. George Clinton & Parliament-Funkadelic was a fixture in the music world during my parents’ childhoods in the 1970s. Growing up, I can remember the sounds of “Give Up the Funk” echoing through my household.

The group developed an influential form of funk music called “psychedelic funk” during the 1970s. The funk will play all night long at the Starlight Theater inside Pala Casino Spa Resort on Aug. 12.

5. OneRepublic, Yaamava’ Resort & Casino (Aug. 16)

A band that millennials are likely familiar with. OneRepublic is a pop rock band that rose to fame after its single, “Apologize,” was remixed by award-winning music producer Timbaland.

“Apologize” was a huge international success, reaching No. 1 in 16 countries and earning the band a Grammy Award nomination. Its second single, “Stop and Stare,” was certified platinum. The band has sold over 16 million records worldwide.

You can catch OneRepublic at the Yaamava’ Resort & Casino on Aug. 16.

4. En Vogue, Viejas Casino & Resort (Aug. 19)

Before there was Destiny’s Child, there was En Vogue. The legendary group behind chart-topping hits like “My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get It),” “Don’t Let Go (Love),” and “Free Your Mind” is coming to Viejas Casino & Resort in Alpine, on Aug. 19.

En Vogue has sold more than 30 million records worldwide, and the group is often considered one of the best vocal groups of all time. The group has received seven Grammy nominations.

3. Brad Paisley, Pechanga Resort Casino (Aug. 20)

The Brad Paisley World Tour 2022 will stop at Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula. Sports fans will remember him from his hilarious Nationwide commercials with Peyton Manning.

But before his comedic endeavors, he is a country music superstar. Paisley has sold over 11 million albums and has won three Grammy Awards. He has seen 35 of his songs appear in the top 10 on the U.S. Billboard Country Airplay chart, 20 of which have reached No. 1. He set a new record in 2009 for the most consecutive singles (10) reaching the top spot on that chart, including “Waitin’ on a Woman” and “Alcohol.”

Paisley will perform at Pechanga Casino on Aug. 20.

2. Poison, Agua Caliente Resort Casino Spa (Aug. 26)

One of the true iconic rock bands will be rocking out on a stage near you. Poison will perform at the Agua Caliente Resort Casino Spa in Rancho Mirage. The band achieved massive success in the mid-1980s through the mid-1990s and has sold 16 million albums in the US and over 50 million worldwide.

Many may remember frontman Bret Michaels from the TV screen and his hit show “Rock Of Love,” which brought millions of viewers and a new generation of fans. The band is perhaps best known for the No. 1 hit single “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” and other hits like singles in the 1980s and 1990s, including “Nothin’ but a Good Time” and “Fallen Angel.”

You can catch Poison at Agua Caliente: Rancho Mirage on Aug. 26.

1. Ashanti, Morongo Casino Resort & Spa (Aug. 7)

Call it a boyhood crush, but R&B singer Ashanti is the performance I am anticipating the most at California casinos this August.

Ashanti’s list of awards and accomplishments includes a Grammy for Best Contemporary R&B Album in 2003. She also has a few film credits under her belt, including “Coach Carter,” “John Tucker Must Die,” and “Resident Evil: Extinction.” However, she’s better known for her chart-topping hits like “What’s Luv,” “Foolish,” and “Rock Wit U (Awww Baby).”

The award-winning singer will perform at Morongo Casino Resort & Spa on Aug. 7.

13-year-old me wins out

In the end, all these artists are fantastic, and all their shows are sure to be epic. But the teenage me had to put Ashanti at No. 1. Her amazing career and selection of songs stand on their own. However, her long list of memorable collaborations with hip-hop legends like Ja Rule and Fat Joe were too much for my younger self to ignore.
