What’s the Best Futures Bet to Make on the Los Angeles Kings?

Los Angeles Kings Stanley Cup betting odds are available with the 2022-23 NHL season now underway. 

FanDuel was dealing the Kings at futures odds of +3000 to win the Stanley Cup as of this writing. That translates to a 3.23% implied probability of Los Angeles winning the Stanley Cup.

The Kings advanced to the NHL Playoffs for the first time since the 2017-18 season last year. Los Angeles played the powerhouse Edmonton Oilers and fell just short in a classic seven-game series, 4-3.

Los Angeles will try to win the third Stanley Cup in franchise history after the Kings captured NHL championships in 2012 and 2014.

Kings on the Upswing as Stanley Cup Contender 

Los Angeles finished third in the Western Conference’s Pacific Division last season with a record of 44-27-11. The Kings bolstered their offense with the addition of former Minnesota Wild forward Kevin Fiala during the offseason. Fiala tallied 33 goals and 85 points for the Wild during the 2021-22 season, which would have made him LA’s top point producer last year.

Anze Kopitar paced LA in points (67) last year. The veteran forward has led the Kings in points for 14 of the past 15 seasons. Kopitar is in his seventh season as team captain and 17th season overall.

Adrian Kempe recorded a team-high 35 goals for the Kings last season. Kempe has picked up where he left off last year by scoring three goals in LA’s first three games of the new season. For the first time since 2008-09, LA entered a season with two players who scored 30+ goals in the previous year. 

Los Angeles is also counting on the continued development of young guns Arthur Kaliyev (21) and Quinton Byfield (20) to increase the team’s overall offensive production this year. Byfield, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, is entering his first full season of NHL action.

That’s not the case for veteran goaltender Jonathan Quick, who entered the 2022-23 campaign with 712 games as a King under his belt. That’s the most of any active NHL goalie with one franchise. 

There’s a nice blend of youthful infusion and veteran leadership on LA’s roster. Quick (36), Kopitar (35), and defenseman Drew Doughty (32) have been mainstays for the Kings, but their window for another Cup run is obviously shortening. All three players played critical roles in LA’s Stanley Cup championship seasons in 2012 and 2014. It’s a testament to their talent and longevity that they remain in leadership roles.  

LA Kings Stanley Cup Betting Analysis

The Kings are entering their fourth season under head coach Todd McLellan. They are trending in the right direction after making the NHL Playoffs for the first time in four seasons last year.

But with teams like Colorado (+300), Calgary (+1100), and Edmonton (+1300) all competing in the Western Conference, it’s difficult to envision LA representing the West in the NHL Stanley Cup Final.

The better bet here is to wager on the Kings to make the NHL Playoffs for the second consecutive year. FanDuel California was dealing LA at -200 odds to make the playoffs as of this writing.
